"I don't think anyone should be counting on fan translations for any game that is of a significant scope. It's all too likely that the fans involved (since they are, after all, fans and not pros getting paid to do this) will either decide that it's too time consuming or lose interest and start on another project. Once they figure out that it's too crappy of a job to do for free, they all either quit or start looking for a paying translation job. You'd have to be pretty insane not to."
